Our Neighbour: The Beamish Factory

This past week, we had a Northwestern friend who is studying in Dublin come down and visit Cork. While thinking up things to show him, we realised that one of the things we hadn't done yet was take a tour of the Beamish Factory, which is right next door to where we live (yum yum, nothing like smelling those hops in the morning!). So we went on a tour on Thursday!

Things I learned:
  • It's the oldest brewery in Ireland.
  • It's the only place that brews Beamish.
  • Beamish > Guinness.
  • Heineken and Carlsburg are about to split up and take over all of Europe (Heineken gets the west, Carlsburg the east), so Heineken is about to own the brewery.
  • I'm great at pouring a pint!

The outside of the Beamish Factory--it's still the original from when they became the Beamish Factory in the 1700's. (Although they were brewing beer here before then.)

Inside the factory where we got our tour.

Mom and Dad, I've found my new calling!

We tried Scrumpy Jack's cider, and learned that there's a reason Bulmer's is the most popular cider in Ireland.

Our group at the tour! Here's to finally meeting our neighbour.
